Bauchi Governor, Sen Bala Muhammad has directed for the immediate clearing and cleaning of all blocked waterways within Bauchi metropolis aftermath of the heavy rain experienced which caused flooding due to blockage of the ways.
The disclosure was made by the Commissioner of Housing and Environment, Rt Hon Danlami Ahmed Kawule during an inspection visit to some of the affected areas.
Speaking to Pressmen during the inspection tour, the Commissioner alongside the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, explained that the exercise was aimed at decongesting the waterways for easy passage of water and to promote hygiene.
Damlami Kawule further explained that the exercise is expected to be completed within a stipulated time frame before the end of this year’s rainy season.
The Commissioner assured residents of the State of qualitative work, adding that the Ministry will soon embark on sensitisation campaign on the dangers of dumping refuse indiscriminately and building on waterways.
He called on the general public to take ownership and protect the projects executed in their communities.
The Commissioner also assured that the state government is committed to security and welfare of its citizens.
