Attack on monarch: Seven dragged to court in Ondo

SEVEN men who attacked and injured the traditional ruler of Igbokoda, Oba Afolabi Odidiomo, have been dragged before a High Court, sitting in Akure, Ondo state capital.

The accused were alleged to have assaulted the monarch and damaged his car and robbed the traditional ruler of his crown and other valuables during the attack.

The accused who included: Oluwasegun Abraham, Ebifemi Akinwunmi, Soji Eweyiju, Joseph Solomon, Mosunmolorun Adesonuwo, Enikuomehin Abraham and Ayela Eniyansoro were arraigned on the six-count charge.

The seven accused were alleged of conspiracy, armed robbery, malicious damage, assault, illegal possession of firearms and attempted murder.

According to the prosecution, led by O.F Akeredolu, who said the seven accused and others at large allegedly attacked the monarch and his driver by inflicting various injuries on them with an intent to kill them.

The accused persons were alleged to have on December 13, 2017, snatched the monarch’s crown worth N75,000 and robbed him of his laptop, iPad and other valuables

The seven accused, however, pleaded not guilty to all the offence.

The Police prosecutor, Inspector Adebayo Alao of the State Criminal Investigation, explained that two of the accused were arrested following the injuries inflicted on the monarch during the attack.

He said that after this, the 3rd and 4th defendants were apprehended in Igbokoda and transferred to Akure SCID for further investigation after their arrest.

According to him, the police were on the verge of obtaining the statements of the witnesses when they received the call that some gang members of the accused persons popularly known as “Tale’s boys” were coming to attack the police station while two suspects were also arrested

The Presiding Judge. Ademola Bola, however, adjourned the case till July 3, 2018, for further hearing.
