Minister of Interior, Mr. Rauf Aregbesola was absent on Tuesday at a gathering of elders meeting held at the residence of the Interim National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief Bisi Akande to iron out differences among aggrieved party members.
The meeting which was the caucus gathering of Elders within the All Progressive Congress (APC), said to have the chieftains of the party likes of Senator Iyiola Omisore, ex Osun Deputy Governor, Titi Laoye-Ponle, ex-deputy Speaker, House of Representatives, Lasun Yusuff, Senate in attendance.
Others in attendance were the Health Minister, Prof Isaac Adewole, Senate spokesperson, Dr Ajibola Basiru, and a host of others.
The meeting which started around 1.00 pm of the day according to sources at the meeting, was strictly restricted to those invited among whom, the interior minister was invited.
The informed sources who disclosed that the meeting was a closed-door one, stated that germane issues that could make the party progress were discussed.
At the meeting, Hon. Lasun Yusuf was quoted to have appealed to elders in the forum to quickly reunite all the aggrieved members of the party.
He said to have maintained that, the earlier, the better for the party to record success and victory in the next political dispensation in the state.
Yusuf who is reportedly said to have traced the genesis of the aggrieved ones to the way and manner they were treated at the 2018 Osun APC Governorship primary, called for prompt reconciliation to be able to work as a formidable force in the next election.
In an interview with Chief Adebisi Akande at the end of the meeting, the elder statesman said, the elders’ caucus is doing its best to resolve every crisis.
He added that “I can assure you that there will be no crisis within our party before the election. We come from different constituencies in Osun and we are going back to let our people know we have started to be more active than before.”
On the next governorship candidate in the next election for APC, the party stalwart simply responded,” I don’t know the identity of the person that would emerge but, I know APC will win the 2022 governorship election in the state.
He, however, disclosed that regular meetings of the forum were disturbed for some time because of COVID-19 issues and promised to make it more virile.
