Appoint Rochas Okorocha as SEDC chairman, South-east youths urge Tinubu

The Southeast Development Youth Stakeholders Forum (SEDYSF), a coalition of youth groups from Nigeria’s southeastern region, has called on President Bola Tinubu to appoint Senator Rochas Okorocha as Chairman of the Southeast Development Commission (SEDC).

The youth group, in a passionate appeal, described Okorocha as the best candidate to lead the commission tasked with spearheading the region’s development agenda.

Speaking during a press conference in Abuja, SEDYSF President Comrade John Uba and Secretary Ambassador Ugokwe Ugokwe emphasised the need for a leader with “vast knowledge of public service, proven leadership, and a commitment to the Southeast’s growth.”

They declared that Okorocha’s extensive political experience and development-driven initiatives make him the ideal choice.

“Our region is blessed with vast resources, talented individuals, and a rich cultural heritage,” Onyewuchi stated.

“However, we also face significant challenges, including infrastructure deficits, economic disparities, and social injustices. It is time for strategic leadership, and we believe Rochas Okorocha is the man to steer the SEDC in the right direction.”

The group lauded President Tinubu and Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Kalu, for ensuring the creation of the Southeast Development Commission. According to SEDYSF, this milestone represents a renewed hope for the region’s future.

“We commend Mr. President and members of the National Assembly for taking a historic step in creating regional development commissions,” Ugokwe added. “This bold initiative will undoubtedly strengthen national unity and promote regional growth.”

The youth forum also acknowledged Okorocha’s achievements as former governor of Imo State and as a founding member of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

“Owelle Anayo Rochas Okorocha has demonstrated unmatched leadership skills, strategic thinking, and a deep commitment to the Southeast,” they said.

“As Chairman of the Progressive Governors’ Forum, he successfully united stakeholders and advanced policies that improved governance and political stability across Nigeria.”

Highlighting Okorocha’s accomplishments, the group noted his ability to execute transformative projects that left a lasting impact on his state and the nation.

“Okorocha’s track record speaks volumes. From infrastructure to education and youth empowerment, he has consistently shown the capacity to deliver,” Onyewuchi emphasised.

The youth leaders also expressed their confidence in Okorocha’s ability to reposition the Southeast for economic, social, and cultural prosperity. “We believe he will bring strategic direction to the SEDC, leveraging his experience to attract investments, address regional challenges, and foster development,” the group declared.

Furthermore, SEDYSF expressed unwavering support for President Tinubu’s administration and praised its commitment to national development. “We remain loyal to your leadership and policies that prioritize the welfare of Nigerians,” they said.

The forum also celebrated Benjamin Kalu’s efforts in championing the creation of the SEDC. “Kalu’s dedication to the Southeast’s progress has made him a hero in our eyes. His vision for regional development is a testament to his patriotism and love for his people,” Ugokwe remarked.

SEDYSF concluded by urging Okorocha to accept the call to serve if appointed by President Tinubu. “In the spirit of love for his people, we passionately plead with Senator Okorocha to take up this responsibility. His leadership is crucial to ensuring the SEDC achieves its mission of transforming the Southeast,” they appealed.

The Southeast Development Commission was recently signed into law to address the region’s socio-economic and infrastructural challenges. The commission is expected to serve as a platform for coordinating development initiatives across the southeastern states, promoting unity and prosperity in the process.
