Apple set to unveil thinner iPhone at annual product launch event

American multinational corporation Apple is expected to unveil its thinnest iPhone yet at its annual product showcase on Tuesday.

The event, titled “Awe-dropping,” will be held at the Steve Jobs Theater in Cupertino at 10 a.m. PT.

The new iPhone 17 lineup is likely to include the Standard, Pro, and Pro Max models, along with a new addition called the iPhone Air.

Observers believe this will be Apple’s lightest flagship phone so far, continuing the company’s focus on slimmer designs seen in its MacBook Air laptops. Apple has not confirmed the details but has also not denied the reports.

Alongside the new iPhones, Apple is expected to introduce the Apple Watch Series 11 and an updated version of its AirPods. Reports suggest the new AirPods may feature live translation, bringing them in line with Google’s Pixel Buds. Apple is also expected to share release dates for its next operating systems, iOS 26 and macOS Tahoe.

The announcements come at a time when President Donald Trump’s tariffs pose challenges to Apple’s supply chain, especially with higher duties on products from China.

While some fear significant price increases, CEO Tim Cook has sought to limit the impact by moving more production to India and shipping large volumes of iPhones into the U.S. ahead of the tariffs.

Another focus will be Apple Intelligence, the company’s generative AI platform introduced in October 2024. The rollout was met with mixed reactions, and promises such as an improved Siri have yet to be delivered.

During a July earnings call, Cook said the company was “making good progress on a more personalized Siri” and pledged a release next year. 

According to reports, Apple has been in talks with Google to use its Gemini AI models to upgrade Siri, similar to the way Google already powers search in Safari.
