A prominent traditional ruler in Kano State, Dr Wada Ibrahim Waziri, the Sarkin Ban Bichi, Hakimin Dambatta has passed on at the age of 89.
This was just as the state governor, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has condoled with the Bichi Emirate Council, families and Kano State over the death of the Sarkin Ban Bichi, Wada Waziri Ibrahim, who died on Wednesday. He was the District Head of Dambatta and one of the kingmakers of Bichi Emirate.
Family sources disclosed that the prominent monarch died Wednesday morning after a protracted illness related to old age.
Information from family sources hinted that the late monarch, who was at one time the District Head of Makoda, was born into a royal family, had his education early in Kano Middle School, and passed out in the 1950s.
The late Wada Waziri was a veteran nursing officer who became popular under the AVM Hamza Abdullahi regime in 1984 when he served as head of operation of the then Kano State Environmental Sanitation Agency, popularly known as Ruwa-Ruwa.
Commenting on the death of late monarch, Governor Ganduje said, “It is with great shock and heartfelt feeling that I am, on behalf of the government and good people of Kano State, commiserating with Bichi Emirate and the families of the late Sarkin Ban Bichi, Alhaji Wada Waziri, over his demise.”
He prayed that Allah give his families, the Emirate and the state, the fortitude to bear the great loss, emphasising that his death was striking to the state, traditional and political leadership in the state.
Describing the deceased as one of the pillars of traditional institutions even before his appointment as Sa’in Kano in the old Kano Emirate, he prayed for Allah’s forgiveness and blessings to the soul of the late traditional leader.
The statement signed and issued by Abba Anwar, Chief Press Secretary to the Governor of Kano State, Dr Ganduje added that “Kano would forever remain appreciative of the contributions late Wada Waziri Ibrahim made to the development of the state and the nation in general.
He was a great treasure as an elder, whose exemplary leadership qualities earned him all respect from his generation and the generation that follows,” said Governor Ganduje.
