Anambra releases 100 million funding for World bank community projects

The Anambra state government has released one hundred million naira cash counterpart fund to the state Community and Social Development Agency for this year 2019 World Bank assisted Community and Social Development Project Additional Financing.

The team leader, World Bank and Federal Project Support Unit supervision mission, who were in the state for a two-day working visit, Professor Foluso Okunmadewa announced this on Monday during a wrap-up session in Awka that attracted Local Government Review Committee members, Local Government Desk Officers and MDAs Desk Officers.

While speaking after an interactive session with the participants, Professor Okunmadewa appealed to state governments to order the ministries of local government affairs to ensure that the local government authorities live up to their responsibilities of funding adequately, Local Government Review Committee and Local Government Desk Officers or else they will terminate World Bank assistance to Communities.

He also asked the state agency of the project to constantly organise training for Local Government Review Committee members and desk officers unveiling that the resources for the training are enshrined in the project.

The team leader, who stated that no vulnerable group should be denied the chance of benefiting because of illiteracy, however announced that they can hire the services of a civil society organisations or NGOs to assist them in packaging their Group Development Plan, defending it before the Local Government Review Committee and even in the implementation process.

While commending the state Agency for achieving so much within nine months the project was birthed in the state, Professor Okunmadewa urged them to always ensure that there are provisions for social and environmental safeguard while appraising any project to avoid negative consequences.

Reacting to the accolades for the state from the team, the General Manager, Anambra state Community and Social Development Agency, Mr. Chudi Mojekwu who said that the reward for a good work is another work, assured that they will not relax on their oars but will continue to soar higher so that Anambra state will continue to be the light of CSDP in Nigeria.
