The Independent National Electoral Commission, (INEC) has released the list of 18 candidates for the November 6 governorship election in Anambra State.
The list revealed that the People’s Democratic Party was stripped of candidates by the Electoral Commission.
Barrister Festus Okoye, National Commissioner and Chairman Information and Voters Education in a statement that accompanied the publication of the list of candidates said the INEC position was in deference to pending litigation trailing parallel primaries conducted by the party in Awka.
Tribune Online checks revealed that a faction led Sir Chukwudi Umeaba had produced Senator Ugochukwu Uba as candidate while Valentine Ozigbo emerged as candidate at the primary accorded recognition by the PDP National Working Committee and conducted by Benue state governor, Dr Samuel Ortom.
The list of candidates equally revealed that former Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria, Chukuwuma Soludo has lost the ticket to Chukuwuma Michael Umeoji.
Umeoji emerged as a candidate of the faction led by Jude Okeke while the Victor Oyi faction produced Dr Soludo. The incumbent governor, Willie Obiano belongs to the Chief Oye faction and had since congratulated Dr Soludo as the standard-bearer.
Further checks revealed that the All Progressives Congress sent the name of Senator Andy Uba as its candidate.
