The Ogun State governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, made the call at the installation and presentation of staff of office to the traditional ruler at a ceremony held at Itekun Prayer Ground.
The new Onitekun of Itekun in Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Area of Ogun State, Oba Jamiu Alamu Adekunte Ogundimu, has been told to consider his appointment as a call to duty and an opportunity to create an atmosphere that would facilitate rapid development of Itekun and its environs.
The governor, represented by the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Chief Jide Ojuko, urged the traditional ruler to mobilise the community for self-help projects that would complement the efforts of government.
Senator Amosun, in a release signed by the Press Officer of the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Oluwaseun Boye, added that the five cardinal programmes of the state which are encapsulated in the mission to rebuild were still on course, noting that government could not achieve them without the support of the people.
“I implore you and your subjects to be fully prepared to serve wholeheartedly. I also charge every member of Itekun community to embrace peace, cooperate and extend hands of fellowship with the new traditional ruler so that the community will continue on the path of growth, progress and development,” Amosun charged.
In his acceptance speech, Oba Ogundimu appreciated the state government, the Yewa Traditional Council and those who contributed to the process of his enthronement.
Earlier in his welcome address, the Chairman of Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Area, Mr Oladele Adeniji, appreciated Itekun kingmakers for their consideration and approval of the traditional ruler, adding that one of the ways by which the state government’s gesture could be reciprocated was through maintenance of peace and orderliness in the community.
