Chairman, Association of Licenced Private Security Practitioners of Nigeria (ALPSPN), Oyo State chapter, Mr Seyi Alaba, has said the group wants to get the best out of its personnel through different training and retraining programmes.
Speaking at the opening of a two-day training programme organised by the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Oyo State chapter, in collaboration with the ALPSPN, Alaba urged participants to be focused and always display a high level of professionalism in their various workplaces.
He encouraged them to pay attention during the programme and be ready to train others.
“We have a very cordial relationship with other security agencies, especially NSCDC, and we have been able to foster synergy in many areas to improve the services that we render to society.
“Today, we are having training for security operatives, and that will go a long way in maintaining peace, especially as we approach the festive period, and through this, our men will be better prepared for the challenges that may lie ahead security-wise.
“I’m impressed with the turnout, and we are hoping that by the end of this training, all our personnel will have something to take home and improve the services we render to our clients.”
In his remarks, the second-in-command to the Oyo State commandant of NSCDC, Femi Etteh, commended private security companies for the crucial role they play in complementing the work of the Private Guard Companies’ Unit to put up the training, adding that their collaboration with ALPSPN would go a long way in nipping crime in the bud.
“The NSCDC is committed to ensuring that the PGC sector operates in accordance with the law and the best international standards of security and safety.
“This training programme is designed to equip you, the private guard personnel, with the necessary skills, knowledge, and professionalism that are required for your job.
You are on the front lines of security and safety in your respective areas of deployment. You are responsible for protecting the lives and properties of your clients, as well as contributing to the overall security and stability of the nation.”
Also, the Head of the Department, Private Guard Company (PGD), NSCDC, Oyo State Command, Oyeniyi Oyeku, said the PGC department in the recent past had carried out in-house training for guards of some companies, saying the theme of the training was: ‘Enhancing security best practises for effective service delivery.’
“This general training that has been organised today offers a great opportunity as a refresher course for all security guards.
“The importance of training and updating our knowledge on standard security best practices for the protection of lives and property cannot be overemphasised.
One significant way to further strengthen the private security industry is to enhance the capacity of security guards to follow the best practices in the industry in order to deliver the required services effectively.
“As security operatives, our strength lies in what action to take at any given time, and that depends on what we know and how to apply it.”
