As a regular alcohol consumer who is about to start a family, I will appreciate it if you can let me know if it is true that alcohol can kill sperm cells leading to a negative effect on fertility.

It is true that Alcohol can affect fertility by altering sperm count, size, shape, and motility. Heavy drinking may have negative impacts on sperm. It may also lower your testosterone levels and sperm count, cause early ejaculation, and shrink a person’s testes. Combining drugs like marijuana or opioids with alcohol also lowers fertility. In addition, liver disease caused by excessive drinking can change sperm quality. The good news is that the effects of alcohol on sperm count are reversible. Studies showed it took three months for the return of healthy sperm production once alcohol consumption stops.
