The wife of Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Patience Umo Eno, has commended John Obot, an Akwa Ibom son who is currently attempting to break the Guinness World Record (GWR) for the Longest Marathon Reading Aloud by an individual, for the brave undertaking.
The Governor’s wife gave the commendation yesterday, when she made a brief stop at Watbridge Hotels, Uyo, venue of the Marathon Reading, also known as Readmania, to encourage the intending record breaker who is attempting to read aloud for 145 hours.
Pastor Patience Eno, who arrived at the venue when the reader had completed 46 hours of reading aloud, described the official attempt by Mr John Obot as commendable and worthy of emulation by every young mind, adding that reading does not only expose the mind beyond borders, but it also builds the intellectual mobility of readers.
Observing that the majority of the 42 books selected for the exercise were authored by Akwa Ibom Indigenes, Pastor Patience Eno commended the Readmania crew for excellent coordination of the process, encouraging Akwa Ibom youths to imbibe reading as a culture and adding that readers are better armed to scale through life’s perils.
“My visit today is not just to encourage the reader alone, but to encourage every other person, particularly the youths of Akwa Ibom State, to begin to emulate this and to let the world know who they are.
There are so many things the youth can do to speak about themselves that are embedded in them. This is a good thing to emulate,” she noted.
On hand to receive the State First Lady was the Programme Coordinator of Readmania, Dr Udeme Nana, who briefed the Governor’s wife on Obot’s attempt, which, according to him, was to promote books authored by Akwa Ibom people as well as encourage the reading culture in Akwa Ibom State.
He expressed delight that Pastor Patience Eno, despite her very busy schedule, had made time to visit and show support to Mr John Obot, saying it signifies the premium she has placed on reading.
