The All Progressives Congress (APC) National Campaign Council for Ondo State gubernatorial election has congratulated its candidate, Governor Rotimi Akeredolu on his victory in the weekend governorship election in the state.
In the result announced by the Vice Chancellor of the University of Ibadan and the Returning Officer for the election, Prof Idowu Olayinka, Governor Akeredolu, polled total votes of 292,830 to defeat his main rival and candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Eyitayo Jegede who scored 195,791.
A statement by a member of the APC National Campaign Council and Director General of Voice of Nigeria (VON), Mr Osita Okechukwu said Governor Akeredolu’s victory has reinforced the conviction that Nigerians prefer APC’s physical infrastructure to the stomach infrastructure of opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Okechukwu said they were happy with the outcome of the election as it showed that Nigerians were gradually coming to terms that physical infrastructure that generates prosperity and enduring happiness, is more preferable than the PDP hand-out stomach infrastructure.
“Indeed this is our hallmark in most APC states and the Federal Government. Our traducers envy infrastructural development going in Lagos, Kaduna, Borno and other APC states, the uncommon Buhari’s agrarian revolution, power and railways infrastructure.”
He further noted that “Akeredolu’s victories were eye-openers on the emerging ideological difference between the two political parties.
“PDP shared the money, while APC is investing the money.”
In a similar statement, the APC National Caretaker Committee has thanked the Ondo State electorate for their continued support.
Yekini Nabena, Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the APC said the people in the south west voted for continued industrialisation, security and their welfare.
“We thank the Ondo electorate for voting for good governance, industrialisation, security, empowerment and general welfare of the state, we will continue to advocate for and support safe, free and credible elections that guarantee that valid votes count and the people’s will prevail.”
Nabena equally acknowledged the trouble shooting team led by Niger State governor, Abubakar Sani Bello, whose reconciliation efforts ensured that aggrieved chieftains of the party in Ondo State closed ranks and worked as a team ahead of the election.
“The APC particularly thanks President Muhammadu Buhari as leader of the party and Governor Mai Mala Buni as chairman of the Party’s Caretaker/Extra-Ordinary National Convention Planning Committee for rallying our supporters, members and leaders, particularly our governors in total support of our governorship candidate, Rotimi Akeredolu.
“We also recognise and appreciate the tireless efforts of the Ondo State APC Reconciliation Committee chaired by the Governor of Niger State, H.E. Abubakar Sani Bello and the APC Ondo State Governorship National Campaign Council chaired by the Governor of Lagos State, H.E. Babajide Sanwo-Olu.
“Governor Akeredolu’s reelection is indeed a testament to the inclusiveness, genuine reconciliation and peace the Governor Mai Mala Buni-led APC Caretaker Committee has ensured among party ranks in Ondo State, other chapters and the party in general.
“The election is concluded, the people have decided and there is no vanquished. We seek general support for Governor Akeredolu as he continues his work to return the Sunshine State to its deserved and progressive standing among states in the country.”
