A military air strike on Sunday reportedly killed more than 20 persons, including suspected bandits and civilians, in Gulari village, Shiroro Local Government Area of Niger State.
Nigerian Tribune gathered that the incident occurred at about 11:00 a.m. following intelligence reports on the movement of a large number of armed bandits said to be riding about 200 motorcycles around Gulari village in the Kusasun community.
Sources disclosed that the suspected bandits, who were allegedly fleeing from security operatives, took refuge in Gulari village, prompting the air bombardment that affected both the criminals and residents of the area.
A source, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said at least 10 persons died instantly, while several others reportedly died in different hospitals.
“The bandits entered the village while escaping, and the air strike followed shortly after. Many people, including villagers, were affected,” the source said.
This is not the first military air operation in Shiroro Local Government Area. In November 2024, a similar air strike was carried out after terrorists allegedly attempted to disrupt the repair of national grid facilities earlier vandalised by bandits in the area.
As of the time of filing this report, the Nigerian Air Force had yet to issue an official statement regarding the latest operation.
