NIGERIA’S former envoy to Canada, Ambassador Dare Bejide, has said that agriculture is suffering in the current administration of Ekiti State and announced that he would raise the standard of agriculture if he becomes governor of the state.
Ambassador Bejide, who told newsmen in Ado Ekiti that he is still interested in becoming the governor of the state on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), said “the agriculture sector is currently suffering in Ekiti State and that is one of the things I am coming to correct a the governor of the state.”
He said: “Why I want to be governor of Ekiti State is because I have something different to offer. I have something different from what the present government in the state is offering the people.”
According to him, “so far, nobody is currently talking about agriculture. Agriculture is neglected and this is not good enough for the Ekiti economy. Agric has the potential to feed the state and increase our revenue because of the location of Ekiti between Abuja and Lagos.”
According to him, “agriculture is key and it has the potential to kick start the economy of the state. If we can’t feed ourselves, that’s not good enough and it is unfortunate.”
The PDP chief held that “to me, the present government in the state is concentrating its programmes on the urban areas of the state. This would put too much pressure in the infrastructure because there would be rural-urban drift.”
He explained that “when I become the governor, this would be done differently because I intend to spread development. We will take development to the rural areas of the state.”
