AGILE project assesses 441 schools, centres for rehabilitation in Zamfara

The Project Coordinator of the Adolescent Girls Learning and Empowerment (AGILE) initiative, Sa’adatu Abdu Gusau, has revealed that no fewer than 441 schools and non-formal learning centres in Zamfara State have been assessed for rehabilitation and the provision of skills equipment.

While addressing newsmen in her office on Thursday in Gusau, the state capital, Gusau explained that the AGILE project is a World Bank initiative in collaboration with the state government, aimed at increasing the enrolment of adolescent girls in school across the state.

“AGILE’s objective is to increase the enrolment of adolescent girls into schools, involving traditional rulers, religious leaders, and community heads to raise public awareness about the programme,” Gusau stated.

One of the strategies to boost enrolment is the use of cash transfers to help ease transportation costs for children from less privileged families, ensuring their access to education, she added.

Gusau also disclosed that under the AGILE project, 42 new schools have been constructed across the state.

“We are targeting 44,000 out-of-school adolescent girls for new enrolments across the state. Additionally, 441 schools and non-formal learning centres have been assessed for renovation and will be provided with digital and livelihood skills training,” she explained.

She further highlighted that the project has two key components: the school-based management committees will oversee the appropriate use of funds and ensure proper monitoring of the project’s implementation throughout the state.

Gusau assured that the AGILE team remains committed to ensuring the project’s success in line with Governor Dauda Lawal’s efforts to improve girls’ education and empowerment in the state.

She emphasised that the AGILE project has played a critical role in achieving its set targets through strategic guidance and support.
