AGF pledges integrity, core values of accounting concept with ICAN

The Accountant General of the Federation, Dr. Oluwatoyin Sakirat Madein, in her continuous effort to promote the professional accounting concept with the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN), has vowed to support the Institute with integrity, transparency, and zero level of tolerance to corruption both in the private and public sector.

Madein disclosed this while playing host to  the 60th President of Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN), Dr Davidson C.S Alaribe and his team in her office in Abuja.

She disclosed that the Office of Accountant General of the Federation plays a lead role in upholding integrity of the Accounting profession, stating that about 70 percent of its workers are Accountants.

In a statement, Bawa Mokwa, Director of Press & Public Relations in the OAGF said Dr. Oluwatoyin reiterated that her Office will continue to partner with ICAN with a view to show robust and transparent accounting concepts since the mandates of ICAN and OAGF are common in status.

“I will maintain integrity, ethics and core values of the accounting profession as well as to welcome all criticisms and recognition in the accounting practices,” Madein disclosed.

The 60th President of ICAN and current President of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria, Dr. Davidson C.S. Alaribe, earlier in his address stated that the mission for the courtesy call is to appreciate the AGF of her motherly role and support that she extended to the Institute during the last ICAN Conference.

He acknowledged the pivotal role the Accountant General of the Federation is playing towards shaping the accounting profession particularly the reactivation of Federal Treasury Academy in Orozo, Abuja, which he said is worth commending.

Davidson stated that ICAN has been rendering assistance to Accountants, offering scholarship in the sum of N500,000.00 to those that are ready to pursue further studies in the accounting profession up to the PhD level.
