About 1,500 IDPs taking refuge in Shiroro LGA of Niger ― Council chairman

No fewer than about 1,500 Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) are currently taking refuge at some selected camps in Shiroro Local Government Area of Niger State following attacks by armed bandits.

The chairman of the Local Government Council, Suleiman Dauda Chukuba, said this while speaking to newsmen in Minna, the state capital.

According to him, over 500 IDPs were living in Kuta IDPs camp while in another case, over 1,000 Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) from Kawure community were in Gwada camp.

Chukuba, however, noted that the Kawure community that housed many people in Shiroro local government council has been taken over by some suspected  Boko Haram members thereby forcing his people to migrate to safer grounds.

He also acknowledged and applauded the Niger State government’s efforts at tackling the menace insisting that it was not resting on its oars to bring to a halt security challenges confronting Shiroro LGA and other parts of the state.

Chikuba disclosed that the state government has deployed a number of security men to Shiroro Local Government Areas to restore peace, stressing that plans were on to have a general operation in the local government council.
