Published by

Everyone is not born with the boldness to speak in public. Sometimes, you need to undergo training to be able to overcome your fears. In fact, before some can deliver wonderful speeches, they need to invest in themselves.  That’s absolutely fine. Yes, many of them see the results.

This is the only way people can keep coming back and recommending you to others. If you’ve fallen in the circle of people that usually find it difficult to speak in public, these are tips that can help you to become a successful public speaker:

1. Download public speaking apps

Download public speaking apps that will help and guide you into becoming a proficient public speaker.

2. Create a YouTube Channel

You can also create a YouTube channel to test your skills. Discuss topics dear to your heart and share on other platforms. This is how you can boost your confidence; because you would get instant feedback from your audience.

3. Join a training organization

You can join an organization that trains people in public speaking and from there, you would have more experience. This is one of the ways you can get to meet and know other aspiring public speakers like you.

4. Create a profile

Create a profile of what you do and what you’ve achieved as an aspiring public speaker on LinkedIn. People need to know who you are and if you have the ability to deliver a wonderful speech.

5. Invest in books

You need to invest in books; read as much as you can. There is no excuse for not exploring different texts that can help you in thinking and choosing wisely.

6. Collaborate with others

Collaborate with others in organizing seminars and awareness programmes. This is how you can be better at what you do — learning from others.

7. Research

Make ‘research’ your priority if you really want to project authenticity in your work. Don’t embrace gibberish talk; you must strive for credibility.

8. Do short videos

Do short videos of every event you attend and post on platforms like Instagram and Facebook. It is also important that you reiterate what you do in your post. If you’re consistent with this, you’re on your way into becoming a successful public speaker in Nigeria.

Let’s be clear about this; as a beginner, you might not be paid at all when called to speak at an event, but you need the exposure and the platform to express yourself. Yes, you need them to have more experience and make people know you. From here, there is a probability of getting an invitation or referral for another event.
