Men of the Nigerian Navy Forward Operating Base (FOB) in Igbokoda, in Ilaje Local Government Area of Ondo State, have arrested a 24-year-old suspected cultist, Tosin Wanlele, who has been tormenting the area with his gang.

Speaking on the arrest of the suspected cultist, the Executive Officer of the Base, Captain Wasuku Alushi, said Wanlele was arrested by personnel of the joint military Operation following a report from members of the community.

He explained that the suspect and other members of his gang had been intimidating the community for a very long time.

Captain Alushi said the men of the Navy traced the suspect to his hideout where he was arrested while other members of the group took to their heels but assured that they would be brought to book.

He said the operation was part of the Navy men’s efforts to restore peace in Igbokoda and its environs and to sustain the fight against cultism and other criminal activities in their area of operation.

In his words, “The suspect was alleged with others who are currently at large to have been harassing and intimidating passers-by with dangerous weapons.

“Consequently, based on credible intelligence, we responded and effected the arrest of the suspect, Tosin Wanlele.

“It would also interest you to know that the suspect was confirmed by the Head of the Vigilante in Igbokoda to be a notorious and known cultist who has been terrorising the people of Igbokoda for a long time.

“Accordingly, he has since been handed over to the Department of State Service for further investigation. It is pertinent to state that the Base has continued to collaborate with other security agencies in Ondo state in stemming the tide of cultism within its Area of Operation”

He assured that the Navy would ensure that the peace within the communities in this area is sustained saying “the Base will further maintain her aggressive posture against any form of criminality, so as to enable legitimate businesses to thrive undeterred.

“The Base is also calling on the good people of Igbokoda not to hesitate in providing timely and actionable intelligence on criminal elements for possible arrest”.
