There’s such a thing as an emotionally unintelligent follower. It’s common knowledge that every leader needs to be emotionally intelligent. However, this should not be an excuse for followers to leave things to chance.
The following are ways by which emotional intelligence can make you a better follower.
An emotionally intelligent follower will willingly submit to the leader’s authority and will not rebel against the ‘government’ of that leader.
Some things will not sit well with you as a follower, and there’s the need to communicate them especially if they stand against the ultimate goal of the leadership.
Emotional intelligence will keep you from recklessly communicating with your leader. It will enable you to put in place appropriate measures to voice out your opinions.
As an emotionally intelligent follower, being loyal is a virtue to the government of your leader. You’ll not instigate others against him or her.
Followers who are emotionally unintelligent will enhance a toxic environment for other followers and this can pose a great problem for a leader because his followers are hardly at peace with each other.
A good leader will have the interest of his members at heart and will do all to make their lives better. However, his or her plans will come to pass only if the followers are teachable and willing. An unteachable follower will be rigid and be a tough one to help.
