9th NASS: New speaker will emerge in hallowed chamber, not on national TV ― Bago
A leading contender for the of the Speaker of the House of Representatives in the 9th National Assembly due for inauguration tomorrow, Hon Umaru Mohammed Bago of the All Progressives Congress (APC), on Sunday declared that the Speaker of the House would emerge inside the chamber and not through the National Television parade.
This was contained in a message he personally sent to his colleagues in the 9th National Assembly and told them that “he is still very much in the race,” urging them to remain resolute as victory was certain.
A copy of the message made available to the Tribune Online reads: “Courage resides in every heart, and there comes a time to summoning it – Joe Bidden.
“I want to thank all my Honourable colleagues who have kept faith with what my aspiration for speakership represents i.e equity, justice and fairness and for connecting with The BAGO plan.
“No Speaker in the history of the house of the Nigerian people, the Green Chamber has emerged from National Television parade.
“We are Honourable members, matured representatives of the people who deserve to be treated with respect, not wares on display.
“We will not elect our Speaker on television but in the chamber, God willing on the 11th of June 2019.
“I will continue to treat you with great respect and esteem, because you have earned it.”
