Lagos lawmaker to FG, states, others: Implement new minimum wage without conditions
AS Nigerians workers join their counterparts all over the world to celebrate this year’s worker’s day, the Chief Whip, Lagos State House of Assembly, Hon Rotimi Abiru has called on all stakeholders across the country, including Federal and state governments, among others to strictly implement the payment of N30,000 new minimum wage to workers across the board without conditions.
The lawmaker representing Shomolu Constituency 2, made the call in solidarity with the Nigerian workers on the celebration of May Day, even as he stressed the key role trade union movement had played in the development of Nigeria while fighting for social justice and Inclusive governance.
According to Hon Abiru workers’ role in national development does not only include agenda setting but also policy implementation as well as monitoring and evaluation, noting that the recent commitments made by the President Muhammadu Buhari- led administration and the social partners towards improving the condition was service to the working population in Nigeria.
The lawmaker, therefore, encouraged all stakeholders involved with labour related issues in Nigeria to work collectively, just as commended the resilience of the Nigerian workers, towards ensuring peaceful negotiation with the government in arriving at the new minimum wage.
