2027: Onyejekwe emerges ADC Reps candidate in Anambra

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has elected Hon. Chukwudi Onyejekwe as the party’s candidate for the Anambra East and West Federal House of Representatives seat at its concluded primaries ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The primary election, which took place on Friday across the 326 wards in the constituency covering the riverine communities of Olumbanasa to the agrarian areas of Anam, Umueri, Aguleri, Nzam, Otuocha, and Nsugbe, recorded what party officials described as massive participation by party members.

Hon. Onyejekwe secured 7,828 votes to defeat his closest rival, Hon. Kenechukwu Offor of Anam, who polled 624 votes.

Declaring the results, the representative of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Mr Kingsley Ajunwa of the Department of Election Party Monitoring, announced Hon. Onyejekwe as the ADC flag bearer for the 2027 House of Representatives election in Anambra East and West Federal Constituency.

In his remarks after his declaration, Hon. Chukwudi Onyejekwe, Esq., expressed gratitude to the people for their overwhelming support and for finding him worthy of being elected as the party’s flag bearer.

“It is a resounding victory and a confirmation of my campaign slogan ‘Handshake of Progress Across Anambra East and West.’ I thank my people for voting massively for me, standing by me, and believing in our vision,” he said.

He described the victory as a mandate for development, emphasising that the people had rejected money politics in favour of purposeful leadership.

“This victory is not just for Awande; it is a victory for improved agriculture, clean water, accessible roads, sustainable youth business grants, and socio-economic development,” Onyejekwe stated.

The ADC candidate further assured party supporters that the momentum from the primaries would be carried into the 2027 general election.

“The ticket is sealed, our mandate is legitimate, and our vision is clear. We are taking this momentum straight to the general election to align Anambra East and West with the national drive for a New Nigeria that is possible,” he added.

Onyejekwe maintained that his campaign would intensify efforts to ensure victory at the polls.

“We are going to work harder to ensure we win the election and also fulfil our promises to the people. We stand firmly on the solid ground of the Supreme Court-recognised Senator David Mark-led National Working Committee. We have conducted a primary that stands as a shining example of transparency, zero impunity, and grassroots democracy,” he said.

He noted that the large participation recorded during the primaries showed that the people of Anambra East and West were determined to change the status quo.

“With the massive turnout witnessed today, there is no gainsaying that the people are ready for change. I assure you that come 2027, there will be a successful election and I will emerge victorious,” he said.
