THE Labour Party (LP) on Monday debunked the speculation making the round that its Presidential candidate has stepped down for his APC counterpart, President Muhammad Buhari in the 2019 general elections.

According to a press statement made available to news .end in Abuja last night by its Director of Publicity and Media Strategy, Yinka Richards, the Party declared Alhaji Usman Zaki remained its Candidate in the 2019 elections and that he was still much in the race.

He said the party’s flagbearer would dazzle Nigerians in the election as he had embarked on grassroots mobilisation across the country.

He frowned at a press statement issued by some faceless politicians in the media over the weekend saying the spread of rumour would not deter the party leadership and all the candidates into all elective positions from delivering on the programmes of the party when elected.

According to the statement,: ‘’Our party frowns at speculations in the media over the weekend on the party’s decision to step down our aspiration to govern the country. We remain the only party who has the programmes for the development of the people of Nigeria and we are determined to win the 2019 Presidential election through the support of the masses in this country ’’.

Richards also called on the public to disregard one detective Sam Nwanti who issued a statement on behalf of the party over the weekend.

He said the person in question was not the party’s presidential candidate and was not authorised to issue any statement in that capacity.

’The urge for cheap popularity has led some rogues in politics like Detective Sam to issue such statements and we are not surprised that a shameless man like him could behave in such manner. He is never our Presidential aspirant talk less of being the Presidential candidate and thus, he is not authorised to make any statement on the activities of the party’, he stated
