THE All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ekiti State has warned its members aspiring for its governorship ticket in the 2018 race to shun hate campaigns and speeches, said to be capable of dividing the party ahead of next year’s election.
APC gave the charge while receiving Chief Dele Okeya, who visited the party’s secretariat to present his letter of intent to formally join the governorship race in the state.
The deputy chairman of the APC in the state, Mrs Kemi Olaleye, who gave the charge while receiving Chief Okeya, said the party had noted that some people were using social media platforms to cause acrimony among members of the party.
Olaleye condemned such ugly trend saying that the Ekiti APC could not afford to be divided or distracted from the enormous task of chasing the rival Peoples Democratic Party from governance of Ekiti in 2018.
She called on all the aspirants of the party to call their supporters to order, saying that the party won’t hesitate to wield the big stick against any erring aspirants.
On the allegation of bias level against the State Executive, she allayed such fear, assuring all aspirants of level playing field at the primary of the party.
Olaleye said “we have been accused of bias by some people. Let me assure you that the executive of this party is for the Ekiti agenda. That is, to take over government next year. We are ready to conduct free and fair primary so that nobody will feel shortchanged. The winner of our primary election must emerge through a transparent process.”
Speaking earlier, Okeya appealed to the leaders of the party, to come together to build a strong, solid and united party to be able to win the 2018 governorship election.
According to him, if giving the opportunity to lead the state, he would focus on youth employment, education, health, agric and rural development among others, urging the political class to stop giving motorcycles to the youth empowerment programmes.
He said youths in the country are supposed to be provided with vocational skills that would develop them for their future so that they can create jobs for themselves without waiting for government to provide job.
