Death toll in Tiv/Jukun crisis moves to 10

Seven( 7) more persons were allegedly killed on Thursday, in the communal bloody fight between Jukun and Tiv ethnic groups in Taraba and Benue States, bringing the total number of casualties from three (3) to ten (10) persons.

As of Thursday the two tribes were engaged in the act of burning houses ,shooting and killing of people at the border towns between Wukari of Taraba and Atsenge in Ukum Local Government Area of Benue respectively.

A source told our correspondent in Makurdi, that seven dead bodies were recovered in a bush near Tse Atsenge which was completely raised down.

The source further said women with children on their backs were seen fleeing the troubled area, as many others went missing following the fight, adding that many of the villagers had fled and some were taking refuge at a neighbouring village. .

An old man of about 60 years old Tyohumba Dooga told our correspondent that he trekked 3 kilometers without water and food.

He said two his brothers had been killed in the attacked when Jukun over ran his community in Tse Atsenga and set the settlement ablazed.

Efforts to get the Police on the latest on the crisis between the two warring communities were not successful as CP’s number did not connect.
