Why I love playing golf —Olaosebikan
Omolaraeni Olaosebikan, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Pixels Photography, who hails from Osi, Ekiti State, has about 16 years experience in digital photography. In this interview with OLANIYAN OLAWALE and DEBORAH MUSTAPHA, the golfer speaks on how golf paved the way for her after a stint in the banking industry.
The journey so far
I had my Ordinary National Diploma (OND) and Higher National Diploma (HND) certificates in Mass Communication from the Moshood Abiola Polytechnic(MAPOLY), During the course of study, I did photo journalism and it helped me a lot. I worked in the banking industry, Bank PHB now Keystone Bank for three years. I resigned from banking due to the Polytechnic status stigma and proceeded to the University of Ibadan to study Linguistics. I was the chairperson at Queen India Hall in 2010 and 2011 and thank God today, my records are still there.
I’ve spent the last 15 years of my life as a photographer. Being the CEO of Pixels Photography has boosted my career because the tasks are not new to me.
Pixel Photography started in 2003 in Ile-Ife, Osun State, due to the passion I have for photography. We are the pace setter in digital photography. We brought digital photography and its transformation to Ibadan where we deliver premium, quality and excellence.
Pixels is into photography, videography, laboratory production as well as production of photo frames. In fact, Pixels Photography will be 16 in July 16, 2019.
According to our slogan “Picture Excellence.” We are clear and deliberate about what we offer people. We have top-notch customers service, our clients are treated well and always offered value for their money.
The challenges we are facing is the pollution, the digital photography industry is not regulated. I don’t compete, Pixel has a niche that has been carved. Pixels photography is known for premium, good service and quality.
Romance with Golf
I joined Ibadan Golf Club (IGC) because I love golf so much. Golf brings out one’s personality; the game gives one discipline and principles. Though, golf is believed to be for the elite owing to certain features associated with the sport, but it is a sure platform for effective networking as you will have the opportunity to meet many influential people and captains of industries.
Golf entails discipline as a sport, there are rules to follow. Also, there is a position to be to play golf. I love the straight life golf gives, the discipline and principles that are synonymous with golf and that’s why I opted for the game.
Golf scores are calculated differently from other sports. It’s very technical; your handicap is calculated with so much of intellect. You must be intelligent and educated to play golf because you have to master its equipment very well to excel.
Victory at 16 Ladies Golf Open
I embraced golf in January this year. I bought ticket worth N50,000 to participate in the raffle draw for the 16 Ladies Open Golf Tournament. I won one tour ticket to Dubai, Kenya and Oman. I also won consolation prizes such as rechargeable fan, perfume, pressing iron, provisions. I’m grateful to God that I won the star prize in the raffle.
I’m a woman of so many phases; I’m into event planning as well, which I have been doing for about four years now. I have handled so many events through Ibadan Golf Club.
The challenge I am facing is because we are based in Ibadan. Yes, people here appreciate quality but they don’t want to pay for it. Nevertheless, we won’t lower the standard we are known for, we would strive to improve our service and win more customers.
Actually, Chief Executive Officers need to be deliberate in directing their organisations, take every challenge as an opportunity to be better. Giving up is not the best decision, every CEO needs to be focused and precise. I don’t compete in the industry. One needs to be focused to achieve one’s dreams.
