Maintain NYSC integrity, neutrality during 2019 elections, Kazaure urges corps members

NYSCAGAINST the backdrop of 2019 general elections, the Director of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier Suleiman Kazaure over the weekend tasked corps members who would serve as ad-hoc staff of the Independent National Electoral (INEC) to maintain the integrity and impartiality of the scheme.

He emphasised the need for the NYSC members to ensure that they discharge their responsibilities during the crucial poll with the spirit of patriotism and eschew acts, capable of rubbishing the image of the organisation.

Kazaure, who gave the charge while addressing corps members of Batch “C” 2018 Stream 1 at the NYSC camp, in Ede, Osun State averred that “you are going to play historic roles in 2019 poll. In NYSC, we are neutral and so you should be neutral in the discharge of duties as ad-hoc officials during the election”, stressing that “no matter what you have passed through, the unity of Nigeria must be paramount to you all.”

Represented by the NYSC director of planning, research, and statistics, Mrs Bose Okakwu, he advised the corps members to make the best use of the entrepreneur skills acquisition centres available in the camp so that you become active players in the nation’s socio-economic sectors after completing their service year.

According to Kazaure, NYSC members should focus more attention on the development of entrepreneurial skills, thus de-emphasising the search for limited white collar jobs and becoming employers of labour through training that they would expose to in the camp and during their primary assignments.

He further added that “you must abide by all the rules and regulations of the camp. You are already ripe for leadership. Carry on with the ideals you have imbibed. Put in your best during your primary assignments. Be conscious of the need to contribute to community development.”

Earlier in his remark, the Osun State coordinator of the NYSC, Mr Emmanuel Danjuma Attah said corps members were on the verge of completing their orientation, saying no stone would be left unturned to instill discipline and other virtues that would prepare the NYSC members for the future.
