15 arrested as gunmen attack four Ogun villages

There was tension in four villages around the ancient town of Ado-Odo in Ogun State as gunmen attacked villagers.

Five people were badly injured in the attacks as the hoodlums ransacked houses and robbed residents of their phones, money, motorcycles and other valuables.

However, fifteen members of the hoodlums have been arrested and detained at the Ado Odo Divisional Police Station.

The arrested suspects were identified as Azeez Lateef, Moses Amazede, Ojo Tobi, Gabriel Oyetunde, Idris Olamilekan, Aliu Qudus, Ayoade Sodiq, Segun Bello, Waliu Ogunbayo, Jamiu Azeez, Olusoji Shobowale, Sodiq Opeyemi, Micheal bBabalola, Hassan Jeelili and  Abolade Taorid.

The armed hoodlums, numbering about one hundred reportedly invaded the villages over the weekend and shot sporadically.

One of the victims of the attacks, Saubano Babajide Elekuro, said ” It was a very terrible experience. I have never had such in my life.”

“I was at home when I started hearing gunshots. Suddenly some armed gangs forced their way into my house and started beating everyone.” 

He continued, “I pleaded with them not to injure or kill anybody but they kept beating us.” 

Elekuro stated that “At the end of the day, they went away with two motorbikes; one lady’s bike and one bajaj and seventy-two thousand.”

He also stated that he identified a certain Elijah with an AK-47 during the attack on his house.

Another victim of the attack, who was also injured, Nafiu Oshoja, also said “There were many of them. They came in buses, and on motorcycles.

He added, ” When the attack continued, we mobilized other villagers and confronted them with the help of policemen from Ado Ado Police Station.

Another villager, Abiodun Emmanuel commended the DPO in charge of Ado Odo Division and the state Commissioner of Police for responding to their distress call.

The villagers also called on the police in Ogun State to go after other members of the gang, and their sponsors and make them face the full wrath of the law.

Efforts to get the reaction of the spokesperson in charge of the state police command, Omolola Odutola, failed as her mobile phone line was not available at the time of filing this report.

However, a police source at Ado Odo, while confirming the arrest of the suspects, said that the arrested suspects confessed to having been led to the villages by Idris Mustapha, also known as Arikusa; Muftau popularly known as Schoolboy and one other person
