Former President Goodluck Jonathan in Niger

goodluck-jonathanThe immediate past president, Dr Goodluck Ebele Jonathan yesterday sneaked into Minna, Niger State capital where he held a closed-door meeting with the former Military President,  General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida at his uphill residence.

Former president Jonathan according to a source arrived the city at about 10.00am in a GMC bulletproof Sports Utility Van marked ABJ 961ER.

He was said to have been accompanied by former Senator Nimi Barigha Amange who had represented Bayelsa East in the National Assembly.

Tribune Online gathered that there were eight other vehicles on his convoy adding that the former president came to Minna by road, en route- Suleja Minna road.

According to a source close to the IBB’s  residence, former president Jonathan immediately after arriving the palatial residence of the former Military ruler entered into a closed-door meeting with him for a yet to be disclosed reasons which may not have been far from the forthcoming national convention of the party.

“Only former president Jonathan and General Babangida were in the meeting,” the source said, adding that “even former senator Amange who was on the entourage to Minna, had to wait in another part of the inner chambers of IBB’s residence.”

The meeting between the duo which was said to have started a few minutes after 10.00am did not end until about 12.14pm it was further learnt.

On his way out former president Jonathan, however,  declined to speak with newsmen,  describing his visit as “private.”

When pressed for comments the former President said he had not seen General Babangida since the latter returned from his overseas medical treatment and felt it was the right time to pay him a visit at the Minna country home of Babangida.

He commended the Nigerian Mass Media for “doing a nice job, saying you people are doing well.”

When asked to comment on the prevailing political situation in the country,  Dr Jonathan replied: “we are retired politicians” just as he was chauffer driven in the same car he had come with.
