A Senior Secondary School student writing the ongoing Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination was crushed to death on Friday at Ikangba, in the Ijebu Ode area of Ogun State.
Saturday Tribune learnt that the deceased, a female student, attended SEICO Secondary School in Ikangba. Another student from the same school was critically injured.
The victim met her untimely death after that day’s examination on the newly rehabilitated Ikangba/Agoro Road.
An eyewitness, who identified himself as Eko Nicholas, said the truck, coming from the Molipa end of the road, suddenly veered off and rammed into the students, who were walking in the opposite direction.

The truck was said to have crashed into the fence of a Redeemed Church beside the road.
He said, “The students were obviously writing the ongoing WASSCE because they were holding question papers. One of them, a female, died on the spot, while another female student was critically injured. We are all praying she makes it.”
Nicholas noted that there have been multiple accidents on the newly rehabilitated Ikangba/Agoro Road, attributing the incidents to the government’s failure to install speed bumps to slow down reckless drivers.
He said, “This is yet another needless death on the Ikangba/Agoro Road, bringing the number of fatalities since February to six, not including several injuries.
“We once again call on the state government to construct speed breakers and install streetlights to prevent these avoidable and painful tragedies.
“The CDWR had previously appealed to the state government, but to no avail. The government must urgently provide speed barriers before another death occurs on this road, especially as several schools are located here, and many schoolchildren walk to and from school daily.”
The Public Relations Officer of the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency, Babatunde Akinbiyi, confirmed the tragic incident to our correspondent.
Akinbiyi, in a phone conversation, said, “TRACE officers in the area have confirmed the tragic incident. One school pupil died.”
