10 safety precautions to take on boat rides

Whether you are boating, fishing, or on a sightseeing cruise, your safely matters a lot

Here are a few safety rules you should take to heart before embarking on boat ride

Wear life jackets:

Ensure that everyone on board wears a properly fitting life jacket, regardless of swimming ability. Make sure there are enough jackets for each person.

Check weather conditions:

Before setting out, check the weather forecast. Avoid going out in stormy or rough weather conditions.

File a float plan:

Inform someone on shore about your trip plans, including your destination, expected return time, and contact information.

Carry safety equipment:

Ensure the boat is equipped with essential safety gear such as fire extinguishers, flares, a first-aid kit, navigation lights, and a horn or whistle.

Follow boating rules:

Familiarize yourself with local boating regulations and follow them diligently. This includes speed limits, navigation rules, and restricted areas.

Avoid alcohol and drugs:

Operating a boat under the influence of alcohol or drugs is illegal and significantly increases the risk of accidents.

Stay alert and vigilant:

Assign a designated lookout to watch for other boats, swimmers, or hazards in the water. Avoid distractions like using mobile phones while operating the boat.

Maintain a safe speed:

Operate the boat at a safe and reasonable speed, especially in crowded or narrow waterways. Slow down in rough waters or areas with restricted visibility.
