The House of Representatives will today start voting on the clauses to the amendment of the 1999 constitution (as amended).
The Deputy Speaker, Honourable Lasun Yusuf who chaired the Special Ad hoc committee on the constitution review had last Thursday submitted the committee’s report to the House.
However, during Tuesday’s plenary session, the Deputy Speaker reminded his colleagues on the need to be prepared for voting on the constitution amendment today.
The Deputy Speaker added that about 300 members are required on the floor of the House during the voting process on the constitution amendment.
To this end, Honourable Lasun ordered all members to suspend all meeting to attend to the voting exercise, saying that “we need 240 members to pass the constitution review”.
Meanwhile, youths in their hundreds on Tuesday protested at the main entrance of the National Assembly on the need for the lawmakers to support ‘not too young to contest bill’ which was part of the constitution review exercise.
