Vice Chancellor, Adeleke University, Professor Dayo Alao, has said the Tribune Newspapers are one of the most stable newspapers in West Africa having outlived many other newspapers which started even after it was established.
Speaking during a courtesy visit by the new General Manager, Online Services of the company, Tinuola Ayanniyi, to the university in Ede, Osun State, on Tuesday, Professor Alao noted that the surviving strength of the Tribune titles lay in the foresight of the founder, Pa Obafemi Awolowo, which had then been imbibed by generations.
“When I wanted to go into the media in 1976, I could not make up my mind about which media house to join, so I sought Pa Awolowo’s advice, because despite my love for Tribune then, my notion was that it was only a regional paper. But I remember that Pa Awolowo told me then that Tribune would outlive all those other papers then. I never knew it was a prophecy. So while other papers were sinking, Tribune was rising.
“There has never been a time that Tribune was not published, no matter the ongoing crisis. It has indeed given the South-West a very good outlook,” he said.
Congratulating Ayanniyi on her new post, the VC said her feats in journalism were worth emulating. He added that “promotion in the media doesn’t come easy, as one must have distinguished oneself, covering different terrains before the management could consider a promotion.
“So I celebrate you for being on the edge at a very important newspaper company in the country. That you are occupying a General Manager’s position in Tribune today says a lot about your hard work, dedication and commitment.”
In her remarks, Ayanniyi assured the institution that the company was ready to improve on the cordial relationship that existed between the two organisations.
