Train commuters in Niger State have appealed to the Nigeria Railway Corporation (NRC), to expedite action on the repairs of the locomotive engine of Minna to Kaduna mass transit train.
The Nigerian Tribune gathered that the engine was taken to Lagos at the instance of the national headquarters of the corporation for repairs.
A cross section of train passengers, who converged on the Minna railway terminus to board the train to Kaduna, indicated that the train was no longer in operation as the engine for the MTT to Kaduna is undergoing repairs in Lagos.
The concerned train passengers in Minna, in an interview on Wednesday, told the Nigerian Tribune that the coaches of the passenger train would also be taken to Zaria for another purpose.
The commuters, who would not want their names in the prints, expressed reservations over the absence of the train.
They appealed to the Minna district of the corporation, the state and federal governments, to as a matter of urgency, intervene in ensuring the return of train services in the state.
Prior to the current inactivity of passenger train in the state, they noted that passenger trains operate on Mondays, Thursdays and Sundays, from Minna to Kaduna, which has contributed to the socio-economic activities of the state.
