The state of Abia witnessed an outpour of celebrities from all parts of Nigeria, as Best of Nollywood Awards, (BON) held sway in its environs.
Some of the winners who emerged include: Alex Ekubo, who clinched the award of the Best Actor in Leading Role (English), while Yomi Fabiyi, clinched the Best Actor Award for Yoruba movies category and Blossom Chukujekwu, for the Igbo category. Judith Audu and Toyin Aimakhu also clinched the Best Actress Award for the English and Yoruba categories.
Other winners include, Adesua Etomi, Ivie Okujaye and Gabriel Afolayan, who were best supporting Actors in their categories.
Speaking on the choice of winners of the 2016 edition of BON Awards the head of jury, Niran Adedokun stated “ On behalf of the Jury for the 2016 edition of the bBest of Nollywood Award, I welcome you all to this night of celebration. I say celebration because it is an evening to honour the resilient creative spirit of the Nigerian filmmaker.
This awards specifically aims at promoting the Nigerian cultural essence in movie making. This is why emphasis is placed on movies that are produced in the indigenous languages. I must say that everyone sitting here tonight is a winner.
While speaking exclusively to Saturday Tribune, The CEO, BON Awards, Seun Oloketuyi said “The story of BON Awards has been a long but eventful and memorable one, I can’t but thank my team for joining me in putting this together. I particularly thank the Host of this year’s Awards, Governor of Abia State, for showing that he really cares about the growth of Africa’s biggest film industry, Nollywood. Congratulations to all winners and everyone sitting here, because of you, we are and will continue to be” he affirmed.
