THE national leadership of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), has commended the Ogun State government for his magnanimity by recalling 12 out of 16 dismissed and 19 suspended workers, over their individual roles during the October 5, World Teachers Day
The Union’s national president, Comrade Michael Olukoya, said this while addressing newsmen, shortly after an emergency meeting of the State Wing Executive Council, held at the NUT secretariat, Abeokuta, on Wednesday, that the step by the Senator Ibikunle Amosun-led administration was commendable and described the move as “Christmas gift” to the entire teachers in the country.
The state government, on Tuesday, announced the recall of 31 teachers sanctioned over their infractions of the public service rules, during the celebration.
The NUT boss said the decision of the state government had put an end to weeks of “nightmare” for the recalled teachers and their families in view of the present economic challenges in the country.
Olukoya commended the roles of former president, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, Alake and Paramount Ruler of Egbaland, Oba Adedotun Gbadebo, the Olu and Paramount Ruler of Yewaland, Oba Kehinde Olugbenle, Olubara of Ibara, Oba Jacob Omolade and other eminent sons and daughters of the state, for their mediatory roles in ensuring that the affected workers were returned to their duty posts.
He also appealed to the governor to extend olive hand to the remaining four dismissed workers whose fate is still hanging in the balance.
