MIFFED by the unceasing hostilities by arms-bearing youths of Ogbe-Ijoh and Aladja communities in Udu and Warri South West local government areas of Delta State, the Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, CP Zanna Ibrahim, has warned the youths to sheathe their swords or face the full weight of the law from security agents.
CP Ibrahim gave the warning in a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Mr Andrew Aniamaka and made available to journalists in Delta.
The warning was sequel to renewed deadly hostilities which erupted between youths from Ogbe-Ijoh and Aladja communities in which a mobile policeman and a few other persons were injured on Friday.
The police boss wondered why the people of the affected areas could not appreciate the efforts and sacrifices of the state government, the police and other security agents in restoring enduring peace to the two warring communities.
He, however, noted that security has been reinforced and peace restored in the affected areas.
While calling on the belligerent youths to drop their arms forthwith and embrace the path of peace, CP Ibrahim warned that the Command would not condone any attack on security personnel and law-abiding citizens of the areas henceforth.
It will be recalled that the two warring communities had been embroiled in communal clashes for ages over land boundary issue that seems defying government intervention.
Past blueprints of committees set up by the state government to look into the crisis hardly find their implementation while the fuel festers with hundreds of souls lost in its wake.
