Investment banker turned politician, Prince Gboyega Nasir Isiaka (GNI), has charged the National Assembly to scrutinise the 2017 fiscal appropriation bill and adjust it to turn around the economy.
Isiaka, a governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the last election, in his New Year message, said that all indicators have not shown promises of a better economy in the New Year, because government has not done what it ought to do to bring the country out of economic doldrums.
He said, “There is nothing that gives hope in that budget proposal, but the National Assembly can still rescue it by doing a thorough job and get many economic development experts to advise them. I agree with the opinion of many Nigerians that the President should reconstitute his economic team and bring more experts on board to give sound advice to find solutions to the recession.
“Nothing will change in 2017 if we did not change our ways of doing things. 2016 would be remembered for hunger, starvation and a year many committed suicide because of inability of the government to meet the aspiration of the people.”
He advised Nigerians to be more concerned about how government runs the economy, noting that passive citizenry cannot gear the Government to implement fiscal policies that will lead to economic boom.
