UNIVERSITY of Ibadan, newly inducted medical and dental surgeons have been charged to ensure they keep abreast of new developments in medicine, especially in the current technologically and IT driven age, to remain relevant.
Vice Chancellor, University of Ibadan, Professor A. Olayinka gave this charge at the induction ceremony into the medical and dental professions for the second batch 2015/2016 graduands of the University.
The vice chancellor, who spoke through Deputy Provost, College of Medicine, University of Ibadan, Professor Obafunke Denloye reminded them that they would be practising in the technologically and IT driven age, where patients know significantly more than they may think.
The Vice Chancellor urged that they develop the right attitude to life and practice, adding, “the height you attain in life is not a function of your capability but attitude.”
Olayinka, who challenged them to go beyond the traditional borders of medicine, asked them to know their limitations and hold firmly to the ethics of their profession.
“The choice is broad and your community demands quality care which usually emanates from postgraduate training,” he declared.
President, Ibadan College of Medicine Alumni Association (ICOMAA), Dr Abib Olamitoye welcoming the inductees into the association urged them to also financially support the college.
Olamitoye disclosed that the government’s monetary policy had slowed down or eradicated several activities in the running of the college and university.

Earlier, Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT) specialist, Dr Diran Olabisi advised the new medical doctors to always accord their patients, colleagues and other members of the medical team respect.
“Remember, nurses are your friends. If you respect them, they will teach you a lot of things,” he said.

Also, Dr Tokunbo Abiose, also a dental expert, charged the dental surgeons to ensure they marry their carrier successfully with their private lives, urging that they also be vanguards for promotion of good oral health.
