To all intents and purposes, the alleged rape by senior secondary school students in Lagos is barbaric, callous and horrific.
Thankfully, the Lagos State government moved in swiftly and arrested some of the perpetrators of the dastardly act. This is indeed a welcome development.
It is yet unclear what would make young, would-be school leavers to descend on their female counterparts in the full glare of the public. Were the students “high” on drugs?
I call on the Lagos State government to investigate the teaching staff in the affected school.
It is possible that discipline is lax in the said school. A thorough investigation will help to uncover hidden facts.
It is also possible that the suspects who have now been arrested had been perpetrating such activitiews before now. What was done to them by way of punishment?
We need to find out what their records are in their swix-year sojourn in the secondary school.
Doing this background check will enable the government to take steps to remedy disciplnary deficiencies in our schools.
The students arrested for rape must be punished severely for their crime.
They must never be allowed to go unpunished and encourage others to commit similar crimes.
