THE Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Walter Onnoghen on Thursday, urged judicial officers in the country to adhere strictly to code of conducts of the legal profession and shun devices that ran contrary to the oath of office which they sworn to.
The CJN gave the advice after swearing-in Justice Ibrahim Rufai Imam as the Acting Grand Kadi of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Sharia Court of Appeal yesterday in Abuja.
Onnoghen said it is incumbent on judicial officers, especially Judges to continue to protect the sanctity of the judiciary, adding that they must remain incorruptible in the administration of justice.
He said the third arm of government was undergoing difficult times, adding that it was the responsibility of practitioners to change the trend for the better.
The CJN therefore, called on the public to pray for the sector as according to him, only God who rules the hearts of men can direct lawyers and judges to embark on positive courses.
On the appointment of Grand Kadi of the FCT Sharia Court of Appeal, Onnoghen said Imam must be guided by the Almighty God and the law when ruling in the affairs of people.
He charged him to, “Ensure that justice is served irrespective of the leanings of parties.
“You also require prayers and close intimacy with God to perform your duties well.
“In the circumstance, I urge the family members to always pray to God on your behalf and to also try to make the home peaceful,’’ the CJN said.
President Muhammadu Buhari approved Imam’s appointment sequel to the retirement of the former Grand Kadi of the court.
