COMMISSIONER of Police in Kwara State, Olusola Amore, has described the growing onslaughts by members of cult groups in the state as dangerous and worrisome.
Speaking on a state TV programme, monitored in Ilorin at the weekend, the police boss lamented that cult activities were now rampant among artisans like electricians, bricklayers, plumbers and commercial motorcycle operators, popularly called okada riders.
The police commissioner, who said that the state command was on top of the situation, added that involvement of such artisans called for worry with their closeness to the masses.
He called on members of the public to supply information to police to prevent crimes, saying that crime prevention was more effective than protection of people.
He said that criminal elements live within the people and come from some families, adding that landlords and family members should know about movement of their neighbours.
The police commissioner, who commended Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed for his support for security agencies in the state, suggested promulgation of law that would make landlords to answer questions or forfeit their property when cultists were found culpable in their property.
Speaking on persistent clashes between herdsmen and farmers in some parts of the state, Mr Amore said that a peace and resolution committee, comprising village heads, traditional rulers and herdsmen had been formed to look into compensation of farmers whose farms were destroyed.
