BRITISH High Commission to Nigeria, Paul Arkwright, has identified piracy as the problem undermining Nigeria’s maritime sector development.
According to a statement issued by the Nigerian Port Authority (NPA) spokesman, Chief Michael Ajayi, on Friday, Arkwright stated this when he paid a courtesy call on the management of the NPA in Lagos, on Wednesday.
The statement also revealed that the British High Commissioner also pledged to assist the country in addressing the challenge, while also disclosing that Britain would make significant contribution to enhance operational efficiency at the ports.
While jointly receiving the British High Commissioner to Nigeria alongside the Executive Director, Finance and Administration, Mohammed Belo-Koko and Executive Director, Marine and Operations, Dr Seconte Davies; the Managing Director of the NPA, Hadiza Bala Usman, pledged stronger relationship with United Kingdom’s companies operating in the Nigerian maritime sector.
The NPA MD also said that the Authority would welcome any assistance that would boost port efficiency from Britain in order to move the ports forward.
