THE Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Ogun State Council, has appealed to Governor Ibikunle Amosun to pay the deductions of workers from the Paris Club fund recently released by the Federal Government to states.
Just as it commended government for paying 10 months check off dues of labour unions and also for fulfilling the approval for the release of 2015 promotion exercise and inauguration of JAAC for local government.
This was contained in a communique issued at the end of the State Executive Council (SEC) of NLC, held last Wednesday, at the union secretariat, in Abeokuta, the state capital and signed by the chairman, Comrade Akeem Ambali.
The union, in the communiqué, prayed government to recall four dismissed labour leaders over their alleged involvement in the last World Teachers Day celebration, while appreciating government for recalling and reinstating 31 sacked and suspended workers.
It further commended Governor Amosun for the commencement of the implementation of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with labour leadership at both the national and state levels.
It said, “The council hereby appeals for prompt payment of the October, along with December salary for the affected staff.
“The SEC in session enjoined the state government to pay in full the global deductions from the money realised from the Paris Club as affirmed by Ondo, Plateau, Benue state governors recently.”
The NLC lauded the Federal Government on its intent to pay new minimum wage in 2017 but noted that the review should also affect the pensioners.
The communique further reads, “The SEC in session appreciate and commend the Federal House of Representatives for their effort to abolish the JAAC and granting financial autonomy to the Local Government, which is a right step towards full autonomy to local government system in Nigeria.”
