Oyo State Command of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has trained 75 Peace Desk Officers in a five-day workshop organised by Peace and Conflict Resolution Unit of the command for the officers across the 33 local government areas of the state as Peace Ambassadors.
The state Commandant, Mr John Adewoye made this known on Tuesday during a closing ceremony of the workshop at the Command’s Headquarter, Iyaganku, Ibadan.
He advised the peace ambassadors to be more proactive by being incorruptible mediators, good listeners and disciplined officers.
“To be at peace is to learn to forgive and forget, hence, don’t be tempted with money,” he advised.
Adewoye called on the general public to visit NSCDC office nearest to them to harness the opportunity involved in conflict resolutions by Oyo State NSCDC, just as he enjoined them to have positive attitude in doing things right by volunteering good and timely information to NSCDC on any strange thing or persons in their neighbourhood, in order to curb crime.
The commandant alsocalled on the media to support the Command by creating more awareness for the security summit organised at the grassroots to enlighten the public on the security challenges like kidnapping, illegal mining, vandalism of critical assets and cultism to mention but a few.
Recently held security summit, according to him included Ogbomosho North, Iseyin, Ibarapa Central and Egbeda local government areas of the state, adding that the summit would continue until it cuts across the remaining local governments in the state.
