THE Oyo State government has commenced series of sensitisation programmes for members of the recently inaugurated School Governing Boards (SGBs) across the state.
Governor Abiola Ajimobi had on February 9, 2016, inaugurated the School Governing Boards (SGBs) with a mandate to improve the performance of the state’s students in public examinations, and build good character of the students.
The sensitisation campaigns championed by the state Ministry of Education, Science and Technology are aimed at enlightening the SGBs on their roles and functions towards the ultimate goal of overall improvement in academic standards and efficiency of teachers in each of the 628 schools in the state.
Led by state Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Professor Adeniyi Olowofela, the sensitisation campaigns last week held at Lagelu Grammar School, Ibadan, and Methodist Grammar School, Igboora.
Olowofela, in his various remarks at the sensitisation programmes, restated the resolve of the state government to ensuring the functionality of the SGBs towards bringing an end to poor performance of students and achieving the ultimate aim of revamping the education sector of the state.
The sensitisation train moves to Anglican Grammar School, Ogbomoso, on Monday, March 6, to Iseyin District Grammar School, Iseyin, on Thursday, March 9, and then to Olivet Baptist High School, Oyo on Friday, March 10, 2017.
Furthermore, sensitisation of SGBs will hold on Tuesday, March 14, at Baptist High School, Saki, and at Irepo Grammar School, Igboho on Wednesday, March 15, 2017.
The sensitisation programmes, which are hinged on direct involvement of public and private sector in the management of schools, are attended by SGBs chairmen, schools principals, community leaders, Parent-Teacher Association and Local Inspectors of Education (LIE).
