The Olubadan of Ibadan land, Oba Saliu Adetunji, on Saturday, confered chieftaincy titles on some eminent citizens, including the President of the Senate, Senator Bukola Saraki; member representing Oyo South Senatorial District, Senator Soji Akanbi and a member of the House of Representatives, Honourable Abiodun Awoleye.
A foremost industrialist, Rasaq Mohammed was also among others conferred with chieftaincy titles in recognition of their contributions to the development of the city and Nigeria in general.
The ceremony, held inside the Mapo Hall, Ibadan, was part of programmes lined up to mark the first coronation anniversary of Oba Adetunji.
Senator Saraki was confered with the title of Otun Ajagunna of Ibadan land, while Mohammed and his wife, Simbiatu, were honoured with the Otunba Basorun and Yeye Otunba Basorun of Ibadan land titles.
Saraki’s title was received on his behalf by Senator Akanbi, who himself and his wife, Zhikrah, were honoured with the titles of Okanlomo and Yeye Okanlomo of Ibadan land respectively.
Others, who were honoured included former governor of Yobe State, Senator (Dr) Bukar Abba Ibrahim as Asaaju Baameto of Ibadanland; Dr Kase Luqman Lawal, Otun Asiwaju of Ibadanland, Honourable Awoleye and his wife, Dorcas Omobolanle as the Jagun Atunluse and Yeye Jagun Atunluse of Ibadan.
Members of the Olubadan-in-Council, Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abdulrasheed Akanbi, and other dignitaries, including a Fuji musician, Wasiu Ayinde, attended the event.
The Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Akanbi, who graced the occasion, congratulated the royal father on his first anniversary on the throne.
