The Senate of the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Osun State, at its sitting on Wednesday, March 28, 2018, endorsed the action taken so far by the university’s management over the issue of students’ unauthorised occupation of the halls of residence.
According to a statement by the Public Relations Officer of the university, Mr. Abiodun Olarewaju, the professors frowned at the rate of moral decadence among the students and urged the Professor Eyitope Ogunbodede-led administration to use all lawful means to enforce obedience to the school’s rules and regulations.
The Senate, therefore, gave the management the mandate to ask students who are still resident in the halls to vacate their apartments/rooms latest by Friday, March 30, 2018.
It also added that any student still illegally occupying any room within the halls of residence would be viewed to have violated his/her matriculation oath, and will be sanctioned appropriately.
In a related development, the Senate has approved the change in the resumption date for the new calendar of 2017/2018 academic session. The new students will now be expected to arrive at the residence on Sunday, April 29, 2018, instead of 3rd April that was earlier announced.
“This is to give enough time for proper repair and comprehensive renovation of all the halls of residence in order to make (them) more comfortable for the students,” Olarewaju said and urged parents and guardians to take note of the new date and prepare their children/wards for resumption accordingly.
